Job Description

The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in the effective management of the department and its productivity. He/she participates in the planning of the work schedule and collaborates in the follow-up of projects.


-   Ensure that the planning is respected in terms of budgets and time allocated for each project;

-   Establish a plan specific to his/her department and ensure the efficient management of his/her team,

-   Establish departmental planning and ensure the efficient management of the team, based on the      general planning and the revised planning done by the supervisors during the evening and night shifts;

-   Plans the organization of work for the next shift, transmitting the work progress and revised planning to the supervisors;

-   Manage employee performance, discipline and enforcement of the collective agreement;

-   Ensures that health and safety rules are respected in the workplace;

-   Inspect and ensure the quality of work performed;

-   Ensure the improvement of work methods and processes;

-   Plan and coordinate the distribution of workers;

-   Manage priorities in the allocation of resources;

-   Ensure the management of hazardous materials;

-   Conduct inspections to ensure the quality of the work performed by his team.


Skills and experience 

-   Education: University degree in management or equivalent number of years experience in the field

-   Experience in a similar position: 3 years

-   Software: Microsoft Office / Excel

-   Languages: English  / French  intermediate level spoken and read

-   Experience in project management

-   Experience in managing unionized personnel

-   Technical knowledge in the naval sector an asset


-   Excellent interpersonal skills

-   Engaging leadership

-   Ability to manage deadlines and priorities

-   Flexibility and adaptability


Other requirements and working conditions  

-   Driver's license (occasional travel)

-   Work outdoors

-   Deadlines are sometimes tight and not known in advance

-   Salary depending on experience
